Boys Basketball: Owls roll past Chargers

Hancock revved up its offense in the second half and rolled past Brandon-Evansville, 77-57, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Hancock.

Brandon-Evansville and Hancock battled to a 36-32 halftime score, with Hancock on top.

“The first half was an offensive battle and that doesn't play to our advantage,” Charger head coach Trent Hintermeister told the Echo Press. “We were missing one of our best defenders (Tuesday) due to illness and it really showed. We got gassed late in the second half and Hancock took advantage of that.”

The Owls' had four players score in double figures, led by Bennett Nienhaus with 17 points and Connor Reese with 13. Peyton Rohloff and Cole Reese both scored 12 points.

“Give Hancock credit. They shot the ball extremely well,” Hintermeister said. Hancock only held a slight advantage in field goal percentage (41 percent for B-E compared to 43 for Hancock), but the kicker was the advantage from beyond the arc. Hancock connected on 10-for-19 3-pointers for 53 percent while B-E was 7-for-21 for 33 percent beyond on the arc.

Hancock, now 13-3 overall and 5-1 in the Pheasant Conference, are scheduled to play host to West Central Area Friday, Feb. 8, in Hancock then serve as hosts to Morris/C-A Saturday, Feb. 9, at the University of Minnesota Morris in Morris.
