Basketball: Nienhaus, Hancock boys re-start the streak

Bennett Nienhaus dropped a game-high 27 points for Hancock, which needed every point to secure a 58-54 win over Brandon-Evansville in boys basketball action on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Evansville. Tuesday marked back-to-back wins for the Owls, who saw a six-game win streak to start the season come to an end against BBE last Thursday, Jan. 3.

Nienhaus also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals in the Owls' win. Junior Daniel Milander added 10 points and five steals.

“The Owls are a good offensive team who have multiple guys who can score,” B-E head coach Trent Hintermeister told the Echo Press. “We did a decent job guarding them, but just didn't put enough stops together. Offensively, our lack of consistency hurt us. We had a run in the first half and a nice run in the second half, but it wasn't enough.”

The Owls, now 8-1 on the year, host Ortonville in a Pheasant Conference clash at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Hancock. The Trojans bring a seven-game winning streak into Hancock after a 73-48 win over Sisseton Tuesday. Ortonville and Hancock are both in Section 6A-South and undefeated in section play this season.
