The Homestead, located in the former Shopko building outside of Morris, is now open for business. The store held a soft opening on Friday, July 16 and officially opened for business on Monday, July 19. Store hours will be Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Two areas of the store are not yet open. Seip Pharmacy is expected to open on or about September 1. Homestead Grounds, a coffee shop and deli, is still waiting for some equipment so the opening date is unsure.
The building underwent major renovations over the winter. The ceiling was removed, new floors installed and new plumbing and restroom fixtures. There is a large open feel to the showroom where you will find a large selection of items.
The Homestead will feature gift items, Health & Beauty products, housewares, cleaning supplies, outdoor products, crafts, toys, sporting goods, baby items and clothing. In the back corner, there is an area for Tempur Pedic mattresses.
The Homestead manager, Kurt Domnick, expected the new sign to arrive on July 16 but added that the steel for the front of the building could be awhile before arriving. He stated that the company would not even give him a possible delivery date.
Domnick encourages people to come out and take a look adding that they are always interested in feedback or input from the public. No plans have been made as of yet for a Grand Opening.
