This year’s Prairie Pioneer Days will be special in that it will recognize the 150th Anniversary year of the City of Morris. Most of the events will take place on Saturday, September 11 at the Stevens County Fairgrounds. However, there will also be other events throughout the community and into Sunday morning.

Saturday morning will get started with the Marv Meyer run at the Morris Area elementary school beginning at 7 a.m. From 8 to 10 a.m. there will be a free body pump class at the Regional Fitness Center. Most events will then switch to the fairgrounds.

Craft and food vendors will be open there from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be special events during this time including a Foodie fun run at 10 a.m. in the Lee Center, Ax throwing from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a UMM kids obstacle course from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a Morris memories display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ag Education Center and an Escape Room in the Old Schoolhouse during the same time period.

You can try out the 4-H cow pie bingo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and do Pumpkin bowling from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A medallion hunt will take place at the Pomme de Terre Park starting at 11:30 p.m.

A Talent contest will begin at 1 p.m. in the Storck Bandshell at the fairgrounds and 150th Anniversary cake will be served from 2 to 4 p.m. 4-Hers will be holding a  kids make and take from 3 to 5 p.m

Everything will shift to downtown Morris after 5, as the annual Prairie Pioneer Days parade starts at 6 p.m. The parade route will run from Cenex North to the Dairy Queen. The Old #1 will hold a street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and there will be a fireworks display at dusk.

On Sunday morning, the Morris Fire Department will hold their annual Pancake Breakfast.

There is still time to get involved in the events and displays. The Chamber is looking for items to display during the celebration. These can be mugs, photos, postcards, uniforms, event posters, advertisements, buttons, brochures and promotional items. You can drop items off at the Chamber of Commerce office before September 7.

The Chamber is also taking registrations for the parade, food vendors, talent show and craft vendors. You can register on the Morris Chamber of Commerce website.
