On December 15 several Morris Area School students loaded five buses nick-named Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen and gathered up the boxes for the Christmas Toy Shoppe. They divided up the sites for each bus and five students aboard picked up the donated toys at their sites, thus “stuffing the bus.”
The toys were taken to the Morris American Legion where they were sorted by age group, gender, type and other guidelines. The students also helped set up tables in preparation for the family visits. During a private opening, the parents of the families were allowed to come in and select items for their children. The gifts are expected to go to over 350 children in the area.
Along with the toy drive, the annual Wish Tree was held. The goal of the Wish Tree is to provide each child with at least one new article of clothing. People adopted a child/tag off a tree and purchased clothes for that child. The Morris Area Women of Today helped pick up the wish tree items and sort them alphabetically.
The Toy Drive and Wish Tree events were a huge success with the generosity and volunteering of so many people, businesses and groups in this area.
