City has four finalists for police chief
Four finalists have been selected to be interviewed for the Morris Police Chief position, city manager Blaine Hill said.
Those finalists are: Reggie Welle and Shane Nelson of Morris, Jaeger Bellows of Laporte and
Eric Olson of Winnebago. Welle is the interim police chief. Nelson is listed a specialist on the Morris Police Department's website.
Hill said on Thursday, March 7, the interviews were expected to be conducted before the end of the week.
The city has been without a police chief since Ross Tiegs retired at the end of December. The city did not secure a chief in its first attempt. The council appointed Welle as interim chief on Jan. 22
The city's civil service commission interviewed three finalists in the first attempt.. Hill told the Stevens County TImes in January that the leading candidate withdrew from consideration earlier in January.
The city's new police sergeant, Dimitri Ikonitski, who was hired in December, was a finalist for the police chief's position. Hill said in January that he and the city's civil service commission believed it is better for the department for Ikonitski to serve as sergeant.
