The final schedule of events has been released for the Hancock 150th Anniversary Celebration which will be held July 1, 2, 3 and 4. The theme for the weekend is “As we live – we grow” 1972-2022. The community will be celebrating and welcoming home so many people who helped the community live and grow.
The Hancock High School Alumni are encouraged to gather in groups on their own or mingle at various events in the community. Tours are available at the school on Saturday, July 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Sunday July 3 by appointment. Please call the school to schedule a time.
The community will be celebrated through Historical City Landmark tours on Sunday and Monday. You will be able to adventure on your own through the city locating historical landmarks which will be designated with signs. This will show how we have lived and grown through the years.
From Monday, June 27 through Friday July 1 there will be a medallion hunt. The person who locates the Medallion will receive $1,000, sponsored by the Community Development Bank. Clues will be posted at City Hall and on the Community of Hancock facebook page each day that week until the medallion is found.
Friday, July 1 will kick off the events with music at Buddies on Hwy 9 in Hancock. DJ Kim Wolf will provide music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be outdoor seating and large tents for shade. Buddies will be celebrating their 15th years in business throughout the weekend with music each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Golfers can get out on the course at Pomme de Terre Golf course at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Hancock Athletic Booster Club will hold their 2nd annual Golf Tournament that day. To sign up, look for the flyer on the Hancock Athletic Booster Club facebook page. The music at Buddies on Saturday night will be ‘Cruisin’, a classic Rock and Country Band.
On Sunday, the food alley will fire up in the city hall parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several vendors will be selling delicious foods on Sunday and Monday in the lot. On Monday, they will be open until 6 p.m. A Car Show will also take place in that area from 1 – 3 p.m. Also from 1-3 p.m. the public is invited to help celebrate the 150th year with a historical display and cupcakes in the Hancock Community Center. There will be music in the park, lawn games, a dunk tank in the park and a Smoke Off at Buddies starting at 3 p.m.
Monday, July 4th will feature most of the traditional events starting off with the 5K run/walk and Fireman’s Pancake breakfast early in the morning. The Little League All-Star game will start at 10 a.m. on the field east of the school. In the same area, at 11 a.m., Community Development Bank will hold their annual coin dig for children.
Back at the Water Tower Park, the food alley will be open and the children can line up for the Kiddie Parade which will start at 1 p.m. This will be followed by the traditional parade at 1:30 p.m. The grand marshals for the celebration are “We the people of Hancock” meaning everyone who has helped the community grow.
Following the parade a Carnival, along with the food court, will be open at the park. There will be inflatables, axe throwing, dunk tank, crafts, balloon twisting, face painting, a petting zoo and games for all ages. The firemen will be giving fire truck rides and there will be a kids pedal pull. The annual tractor pull will be taking place near Trico.
The day will wind down with the grand finale and celebration of 150 years with the traditional Hancock fireworks display. It will be a fun and memorable weekend of celebration for everyone who has ever called Hancock home.
