Fisherman dies after being hit by vehicle
Nicholas Hervin, 32, of Morris, died after a vehicle driven by Joshua Dewald, 40, of Brooten, struck him while he was fishing along the shore of Long Lake at about 7:32 p.m. on May 15, the Stevens County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Hervin died from injuries he received when Dewald's vehicle struck him in an embankment, the release said. Dewald was eastbound when his vehicle veered into the opposite lane and hit a parked pickup truck on the side of Stevens County Road 10 The collision caused Dewald's vehicle to go sideways down the embankment and strike Hervin.
Hervin and Dewald were transported to Stevens Community Medical Center.
Dewald was arrested on multiple warrants.. The sheriff's office is investigating.
The Morris Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, the University of Minnesota Morris Police Department, the Stevens County Ambulance Service, the Hancock Fire Department, and the Morris Fire Department also responded to the scene.
