No injury in Jan. 2 Appleton runway plane crash
The pilot was not injured when his plane skidded off the runway and flipped on Jan. 2 at the Appleton Municipal Airport, Appleton Police Chief Sedrick Borsgard said in a Jan. 3 news release. The 1973 Cessna Skyhawk ran off the runway when its tires connected into the snow which caused the plane to flip over, the release said. The pilot, a 42-year-old man from Clear Lake, Wisconsin, was attempting to take off after the plane slid off the runway in attempt to land, the release said. On the attempted takeoff, the pilot was unable regain speed and crashed, the release said. The incident was reported at about 12:11 p.m., the release said.
The plane had major damage to its top, wings, and wheels. The crash is under investigation by the FAA and NTSB.
