Memorial Day Services have been set in Hancock and Morris for Monday, May 27.

The service starts at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

The speaker this year is National Guard veteran Trevor Seales.

The program includes a roll call of the dead, a 21 gun salute and special music.

The Rev. Bruce Hanneman will provide the welcome, invocation and benediction.

The American Legion service in Morris starts with music from the Morris Community Band from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the National Guard Armory.

The speaker is Victor Gades who was in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1976. He was trained as an aviation electronics technician. Gades spent just over three years with the Navy Fighter Weapons School at NAS Miramar in San Diego. He was also assigned to Fighter Squadron VF-143 attached to the CVA USS America. At the end of his enlistment, he was stationed at NAS Oceana in Norfolk, Virginia. Gades is the American Legion 7th District Sergeant-at-Arms.

The program will also include an American Legion Auxiliary presentation by Pam Lubenow and invocation and benediction by the Rev. Jeremy J. Ploof.

When the Legion service ends, there will be short parade to the Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Seventh Street and College Avenue.

The VFW program will be conducted by Post 5039 commander Ted Storck. Flowers will be placed at the memorial as a symbol of rememberance. The program will also include a 21 gun salute and TAPS. VFW members and VFW Auxiliary members will participate in the program.
