DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Highway 59 between Elbow Lake and Interstate 94 will encounter a lane closure due to water over the road. The northbound lane is closed between mileposts 201 and 202, and traffic is being controlled by automated signals.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation warns motorists that driving through water is dangerous and not to drive around barricades or into flooded areas.

MnDOT cautions motorists to be alert for the potential of road flooding in west central Minnesota as the heavy snow pack continues to melt. Highways could be closed at times if water poses a safety hazard to motorists. Areas that have water on the road or are closed because of flooding are marked on MnDOT’s road conditions map www.511mn.org.
