Violinist Gaelynn Lea will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, at Edson Auditorium in the student center at the Univeristy of Minnesota Morris as part of the university's performing arts series. A songwriter and classically trained violinist, Lea has bewitched fans with her haunting original songs and experimental takes on traditional fiddle music. She most recently won NPR Music's 2016 Tiny Desk Contest, a competition drawing submissions of original songs from more than 6,000 musicians across the country.

In recent years Lea has used her music to advocate for people with disabilities and to promote positive social change.

Her speaking engagements focus on disability, finding inner freedom, and the power of music.
