ST. PAUL, Minn.-- Minnesota families who have owned their farms for 100 years or more may apply for the 2013 Century Farms Program.
MORRIS, Minn. -- A blizzard warning for west central Minnesota has been downgraded, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon Monday for much of the area, including the Morris, Benson, Herman, Glenwood and Alexandria areas. Strong winds will cause blowing and drifting snow, and white-out conditions are possible in open areas. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph, are forecast expected, the Weather Service says. Winds will subside this afternoon.

MORRIS -- On Wednesday, the United States Postmaster General announced that the Postal Service will cease Saturday home mail delivery Aug. 1, saving the postal service $2 billion annually. I was at an early meeting and had only caught a portion of the news that morning. However, by the fourth panicked phone call, I thought I had better read more about this.
Baltimore, Md. -- Research Agronomist Frank Forcella of Morris is among three weed scientists honored by the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) for their outstanding contributions to the field of weed science. Forcella received the organization's highest recognition, the Fellow Award, during the WSSA's annual meeting, held this week in Baltimore, Md.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen, Minn., has issued a WIND CHILL WARNING for much of west central Minnesota from tonight through Friday noon. This WIND CHILL WARNING includes the following counties: Stevens, Douglas, Todd, Pope, Stearns, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine, Renville, McLeod, Sibley, Redwood, Brown, Nicollet, Watonwan, Blue Earth and Martin.
The Morris Area, St. Mary's and Cyrus Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 31.
MORRIS - Bison fans and North Dakota State University alumni (from left) Tom Noel, Shane Decker, and Max Martin are gearing up for the team's second straight appearance in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title game on Saturday. The three proud Bison fans pose by a stuffed bison head now on display at Willie's Super Valu. Decker owns the bison head. The bison head came by way of his uncle, Decker said, who is a bison farmer in Milnor, N.D. The bison head often used at tailgating parties for NDSU football games. However, this is the bison's first retail appearance.
