Three candidates have filed for two seats on the Morris City Council. Incumbent Kevin Wohlers will be joined on the ballot by Kim Gullickson and Sheila Hemming. The other incumbent whose term is expiring, Bill Storck, did not file for re-election. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the Nov. 8 general election will be elected to four-year terms on the Morris City Council.

MORRIS — The Morris Kiwanis have announced an abbreviated round of preliminary competitions, leading up to their Talent Show Finals in July at Prairie Pioneer Days. The Kiwanis will hold preliminary competitions on Thursday, June 23 and Thursday, June 30 at East Side Park in Morris. The top five acts from each evening will be eligible to perform during the Talent Show Finals, held as the kick-off to Prairie Pioneer Days on Friday, July 8.

MORRIS — Alexandria High School teacher Russ Hinrichs won the endorsement of the delegates to the Democratic Farmer Labor convention for Minnesota State Senate District 12, held May 12 in Morris. Hinrichs will challenge incumbent Republican Senator Torrey Westrom of Elbow Lake. Hinrichs' wife, Patti, nominated him for the endorsement. "He is a born leader. He is trustworthy, respectful, accountable, he will listen," she said. "I am proud of him and it is a great honor to nominate him for Senate District 12."

The last few weeks have been wildly busy in Morris and it is the stuff that makes small town living worthwhile. This organization was founded in the 1950s by a group of local activists who wanted Congress to provide funding to locate a federal research station in Morris.
