Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly News. I have decided to wait until next week for my annual graduation column. Most of the last week has been cloudy, cool and rainy. I talked to a former neighbor on Sunday he said they had only one field to put in yet, see some crops are already up
There will be an open house graduation reception for Agnes Dieter on Saturday, May 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Crystal Lanes & Entertainment Center in Morris. There will be a graduation open house held for Leah Thorstad on Sunday, May 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the Chokio Senior Center. Please join us for an open house bridal shower in honor of Bree Holleman, bride-to-be of Nick Smith, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, June 3, at Assumption of Mary Catholic Church basement - 209 E. 3rd St., Morris.
Memorial Day activities for Morris are set for Monday, May 29, by the local American Legion and VFW. The ceremonies start with the 9 a.m program at the Armory in Morris sponsored by the American Legion. Stevens County Commissioner and Navy veteran Phil Gausman is the speaker. Gausman served in the Navy from 1968 through 1974. He was trained as a nuclear power plant operator and was deployed to Vietnam. He served aboard the USS White Plains, a combat store ship. On his second tour, he served aboard the Navy's Sculpin, a nuclear powered fast attack submarine.
The history of Minnesota was on display at the Morris Area Elementary School on May 16, as the sixth grade students displayed their research into different aspects of the state's history.<

Morris Area HIgh School's graduation is set for 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, at the elementary gym. The class of 2017 has 93 graduates.
It's only a suggestion at this point but Morris Mayor Sheldon Giese said the Morris City Council needs to investigate a paperless operation. Giese made the suggestion at the May 2 council meeting. In a later interview with the Sun Tribune, Giese said he made the suggestion after reading more about other governmental bodies making the change in a governmental news update he receives as mayor. City council members have a packet of meeting information for each meeting. Those packets include the agenda and information needed for items on that agenda.
Morris Area High School had its spring choir concert for choirs in grades seventh through 12 on May 15. The choirs included boys and girls choirs from seventh and eighth grade and the concert, Express and a cappella choirs from ninth through 12th grade.
Morris Area High School had its prom Saturday, April 29. This year's prom was called "This is the Moment" and it featured a vintage Hollywood theme.
Fifth grade teacher Caleb Greene has a classroom that's a little different when it comes to students taking a seat. Over the last year and half, Greene has collected different seating options for students. Those options include a fusion of an exercise bike and a chair, a tractor seat that rolls back and forth as well as a rotating seat, island stools at high top tables, rocking chairs, a bathtub, hokki stools, and a picnic table.
