Parents might spend years fighting creeping doubts about whether their growing children even like them, much less love them. Usually, as the children grow into adults, they make it clear to their moms and dads just how much they mean to them.
By Katie Erdman Hancock Record There are things you like to keep in the family: mom's crystal candy dish, dad's antique pocket watch or even Aunt Jenny's famous pickle recipe.
Minnesota's top Republican lawmaker joined Torrey Westrom in Morris on Monday to say they believe the state is in good fiscal shape, and that good things lie ahead for West Central Minnesota, especially relating to alternative energy. Minnesota House Speaker Steve Sviggum and Westrom, the District 11A state representative, met with about a dozen people during a morning meeting. The gathering more or less signals the beginning of Westrom's campaign for a sixth term.
The Morris Legion baseball team won't be entering the district playoffs in the kind of shape it would like. Morris lost four straight games last week, two by blowout scores and it was shutout in another. Coach Brock Pashen may have been understating matters when he called it a "very frustrating week." Morris lost twice to Wheaton by scores of 13-2 and 7-6. The Legion closed its regular season with 6-0 and 12-2 losses against Fargo. Morris still enters the playoffs as the No. 2 seed behind Wheaton. The seeds are: 1. Wheaton; 2. Morris; 3. Chokio; 4. Clinton; 5. West Central; 6.
The Morris Eagles amateur baseball team couldn't have scripted a better situation for itself heading into Land O'Ducks League playoffs this weekend. The Eagles defeated Ortonville 5-0 on Sunday for its second-straight shutout victory, ninth straight win, and the 13th win in their last 15 games. The Eagles ended the regular season as its LOD division's third seed behind Clinton and Dumont. The Eagles, 16-9 overall and 11-3 in the LOD, play Dumont at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Wheaton in a best-of-three series.

Is this another crazy year? Wheat fields starting to turn by July 4, corn fields that are chest high by the Fourth and gardens producing like gangbusters. I had a great crop of snow peas, the onions look like they are about mature size, the first picking of green beans were delicious, and the raspberries are ripening as fast as I can pick them. The flavor is excellent but the seeds still stick in my teeth. My freezer will be full of this season's fruit and vegetables in no time. I thought that my potatoes might not have potato beetles this year and then last week here they came.
15 Years Ago July 2, 1991 Sun City crews cut down 18 elms on boulevards in Morris between June 15 and 25 and marked another 14 diseased elms on private property. Public Works Director Bill Storck said Dutch Elm disease seems to be a little stronger this year. Specialist Lyle E. Kill, son of Fred and Helen Kill of Morris, recently returned home from serving in Operation Desert Storm. His regiment led the 7th Army Corps in its thrust into Iraq toward Basra.

The City of Morris will be represented by Mayor Carol Wilcox and City Council member Sheldon Giese should a proposed annexation process reach the mediation phase. The council voted to approve the appointment of Wilcox and Giese, and to name City Manager Ed Larson an ex officio member of the mediation team, at its meeting Tuesday night. The council also may appoint a resident to the mediation team at a later date. Morris has made a request to the state to annex 165.5 acres of land now in Morris and Darnen townships. The city petitioned for annexation earlier this spring, and the state offic
