When the Minnesota State Fair opens its gates on Thursday, Aug. 24, the University of Minnesota, Morris will be there. A display showcasing the Morris campus will be included among those from other campuses of the University of Minnesota in a system-wide exhibit, located in the U of M exhibition building on Dan Patch Avenue and Underwood Street. Although the entire University of Minnesota exhibit can be seen by fairgoers throughout the fair, Aug. 24-Sept. 4, UMM alumni, faculty, staff and students will staff the booth over the Labor Day weekend, Sept.

The recent death of Chokio's Marion Dahm was the second in the state attributed to the West Nile virus. Minnesota Department of Health officials confirmed a West Nile death in Stevens County. Dahm's family confirmed that his July 30 death came after a week-long battle with the virus.
When I was young, aeons ago, this quotation was inscribed on a plaque that hung above our meal table: Christ is the head of this house; the unseen guest at every meal; the silent listener to every conversation. As a child, I interpreted it as a reminder to control my tongue, if not my thoughts, too! Now I read it differently. KELLY DIANE BERLINGER was born August 5, 2006 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria to Mark and Nicole Berlinger of Morris. Kelly Diane weighed 6 lbs. and was 20 1/4" long. Grandparents are Mark and Diane Kleindl of Graceville and John and Marylou Berlinger of Chokio. Great grandparents are Elden and Alice Stueve and Francis Kleindl, all of Graceville, Mary Berlinger of Chokio, and the late Colette Kleindl.
Minnesota State Senator Dallas Sams on Friday stated that he is again battling a malignant tumor. Sams, who was successfully treated for a brain tumor in 2005, recently learned that a new growth has been found by his doctors, and they are currently working together to develop treatments. "This is obviously not the news that I hoped to share with my family and my many friends, but I am confident and ready to tackle this challenge," Sams said.
15 Years Ago August 6, 1991 Sun There was a homecoming in Morris last week when two members of a Vietnamese family returned to visit the community that had meant so much to them. Three churches in Morris (Faith Lutheran, First Lutheran and Federated Church) worked together in 1975 to sponsor a Vietnamese family and brought 16 members of the Quan Ly family here from a refugee camp in Fort Chaffee, Ark.
