One group of students, Jane Vogt, Shirley Hagen, Eugene Furhman, Dennis Heifner and Paul Vogt, watched Neil Handorff during operation of the Heidelberg commercial printing press. Nathaniel Mann is the journalism class instructor.

The trophy is emblematic of the first regional debate championship in the history of the school. Local debate stars are Barbara Beck, Leanne Qualey, Gary Eidsvold and Judy Sifers. Debate team coach is Mrs. Jean Peterson and assistant coach is Leonard O'Koren.

According to his superiors, Norby has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to supervise and perform quality maintenance. Airman Norby is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Norby, who reside in Morris. Jim enlisted in Minneapolis five years and eight months ago, and is a definite career man.

Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sigvald Thompson, Cyrus, is taking part in the Army's Alaskan "Exorcise Moose Horn" in the Big Delta area, 165 miles from the Arctic Circle. During the four-week maneuver, several thousand troops will receive practical training in tactical operations and cross-country movement under simulated combat conditions. Winter temperatures in the region drop to about 50 degrees below zero.

60 Years Ago Items taken from the Sun of January 17, 1956 Strong sentiment for the formation of a soil conservation district in Stevens County was expressed by more than 60 farmers who attended a formal hearing on the proposal in the courthouse. The overwhelming sentiment is expected to result in the state Soil Conservation committee authorizing a county-wide referendum on the question at which farm owners and occupants will vote on the matter.
