Ryan Snyder and the Hancock Owl softball team saw its inaugural season come to an end on Tuesday, May 23 in Brandon. The Owls were the No. 8 seed in Section 6A-West and faced No. 1 Brandon-Evansville. The Chargers won 12-0 in five innings to advance in the postseason.
The Hancock High School trapshooting team continues to fall in the Class A – Conference 6 standings. After a 565 in week 1, the Owls have continuously hit less and less targets each week, totaling a season low 425.5 season score in week four. Despite a sixth place conference performance in week four, Hancock remains in third in the overall standings.
Two sides of the game combined for a dominant 7-1 win for Hancock on Monday, May 22 in Chokio. The Owl had 14 hits, but it was Chandler Gramm and the defense behind him that secured the win over Hillcrest. Gramm earned the complete game win, giving up just two hits and one earned run. He walked two and struck out eight.
Some local wrestlers have been participating in the Thor Wrestling Club in Minneota. Morris Area / Hancock / Chokio-Alberta wrestlers that participated included Hunter Gibson, Caden Rose, Carter Gibson, Davin Rose, Tyce Anderson, Ethan Lebrija, and Dalton Rose. Club members wrestled two nights a week starting in the middle of March and wrestled at 7-10 tournaments across the state.
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta baseball team earned a 3-2 walk-off win over Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday, May 19 at Chizek Field in Morris. Mitchell Dufault reached and Jared Rohloff scored on a LQPV error to give the Tigers their eighth win of the season.
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta wrapped up the West Central Conference championship with a 12-2 victory over BOLD in the first game of a conference doubleheader on Friday, May 19 in Olivia. The Tigers completed a sweep of a West Central Conference doubleheader with a 6-1 victory in Game Two on Friday in Olivia.
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta baseball team was seeded fourth in the upcoming Section 3AA-North playoffs, announced Monday, May 22. The Tigers will take on No. 5-seeded Montevideo at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 in Spicer. New London-Spicer took the No. 1 seed in Section 3AA-North and will take on the winner of Morris/C-A and Montevideo at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tyler Reese was selected to the Class A Academic All-State Team this past basketball season. He was one of 31 Class A and AA senior boys basketball players in Minnesota to receive this award, which is based on players GPA and season stats.
It took eight innings but Hancock was able to spoil Kevin Campbell's complete game effort with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Michael Milander got the win on the mound with two innings of work and he added to the offensive effort with a run on his own at the plate.
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning as Piper Gibson produced one of the bigger offensive performances in the area this season at Brandon-Evansville on Thursday, May 18 in Evansville. Gibson was 5-for-5 with a home run, three doubles and four runs batted in.
