The weather wasn't the greatest, head coach Dale Henrich said, but that didn't stop two Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta cross country runners from posting their best times of the season to qualify for state at Section 6A meet Thursday, Oct. 26 in Long Prairie. "The weather wasn't nice, but everyone had to run in the same stuff," Henrich said. "I checked and it was 36 degrees at the finish line of the guys race."
University of Minnesota, Morris head coaches Matt Johnson and Marty Hoffmann recap the action at Iowa Wesleyan. The Cougars took a 24-17 loss to the Tigers Saturday, Oct. 21. The Cougars play host to Northwestern at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 for senior day. UMM will honor four seniors: Taylor Holleman, Mitch Fischer, Austin Baca, Brandon Barras, and Dominic Goseyun.

The Kaleb Koehl-Noah Kannegiesser connection was strong in Hancock's Section 4 9-man opener against No. 5 Underwood Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Hancock. The two combined for four touchdowns, all in the first half, in the 52-20 win over the Rockets. The Owls will now play at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, likely in Verndale. Verndale is the No. 1 seed and took on No. 8 Onamia Tuesday night. Story to be updated.
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta football opened up Section 6AA playoffs Tuesday, Oct. 24 with a convincing 34-7 win over No. 5 Breckenridge at Big Cat Stadium in Morris. The No. 4 Tigers will now play No. 1 Pillager at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 in Pillager.
The Hancock volleyball season came to an end in the opening round of the Section 6A playoffs Monday, Oct. 23 against No. 6 Parkers Prairie. No. 11 Hancock bested its point-total in each set, but fell in three 25-15, 25-18, 25-20. Senior Emma Nelson reached 1,000 career digs in the loss. She finished the night with a team high 13. The Owls finish the 2017 season 3-17 overall and graduate three seniors: Nelson, Ashlyn Mattson, and Tess Steiner. Parkers Prairie goes on to play No. 3 Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 in Graceville.
