As many of you are already aware, the 2013 – 2014 school year at Morris Area Schools recently concluded. As we transition from the end of one year into the start of the next, there are a few items of interest that I wish to share with you. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who was involved in supporting scholarships for our graduating seniors at the recent Senior Breakfast and Scholarship Ceremony.
This month, I would like to continue to update everyone on our preparation for the 2014 – 2015 school year and share a few personal thoughts and observations. The 2014-2015 school year will be a year filled with many updates, new faces, and “firsts” in ISD 2769. Even though I have only been an educator for twenty-five years, it seems that each year brings about new requirements and necessary changes.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2014! It seems many entities, including schools, use a variety of acronyms. Sometimes, staff members are the only ones familiar with many of these acronyms. In many school districts, a visitor might hear acronyms such as IEP (individualized education plan), MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment), and MAP (Measures of Academic Progress). ADSIS is another acronym in our district.

The Minnesota Department of Education recently released the results of their “rating” of schools from the 2012-2013 school year. The results for both Morris Area Elementary School and Morris Area High School are excellent. I would like to share some information and thoughts about these. The Minnesota Department of Education uses a system called the MMR or Multiple Measurements Rating to rate schools each year.
The Minnesota Department of Education recently released results from student assessments that Morris Area School District students took during the winter and spring of 2013. These student assessments, which are primarily referred to as Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments, are yearly tests students in grades 3-8, 10, and 11 take.
I am typing this on Thursday, May 30 and commencement for the Morris Area High School Class of 2013 is tomorrow.
