Legion plays tonight in Montevideo

Morris Legion Post 29 advanced to the semi-finals of the Division 2, District 7, final four tournament with a 4-2 win over Sacred Heart Tuesday in Montevideo. Morris will now take on BOLD who defeated Glenwood/Lowry 4-3 in the double elimination tournament.

Alex Erickson pitched a complete game for the win, giving up two earned runs on six hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts. He was helped out by several fine defensive plays as Post 29 committed just one error in the game.

Morris struck first, picking up a run in the bottom of the first when Tyler Hansen worked out a one-out walk from Sacred Heart's fine pitcher, Dakota Freiborg and advanced to second on a single off of the bat of Dusty Sauter. The Sacred Heart left fielder then misplayed a fly ball by Ryan Beyer allowing Hansen to score.

Post 29 added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the third.  Hansen led off with a single and came around to score on a booming double to left center off of the bat of Sauter. Sauter advanced to third on a ground out by Eric Riley and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.

Morris picked up a big insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Brady Valnes reached on a one-out walk and scored on a line drive double to the gap by Nate Gades. The run loomed large when Freiborg led off the top of the seventh with a home run off of Erickson and three singles around two outs made the score 4-2 and left runners on first and second for Sacred Heart. Erickson stopped the rally there by getting a ground out to third baseman Valnes to preserve the win.

Sauter had a strong night at the plate, going 3-for-3 and Hansen scored twice to lead the offense.
