Legion wraps up regular season
The Morris Legion Post 29 baseballl team wrapped up their regular season with a 5-3 win in Clinton on Monday, July 12. With the win Post 29's record went to 9-0 in District 7 play and 12-7 overall.
Tyler Hansen started on the mound for Morris and he was sharp, striking out four in three scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and walking three. Travis Rinkenberger came on to get the win, also going three innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits, walking two, and striking out two. Nate Gades finished up for the save allowing an earned run in his one inning on three hits and two strike outs.
Post 29 got one in the top of the first when Hansen singled, stole second, and scored on a Dusty Sauter double. Morris added another in the second when Gades doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Morris made it 3-0 in the third when Sauter and Ryan Beyer led off with singles, but Sauter was thrown out on the base paths. Eric Riley then doubled in Beyer.
After Clinton scored in the fourth, Post 29 added two final runs in the top of the fifth. Beyer and E. Riley singled and Gades walked to load the bases. Cole Riley then came through with a two-run single.
Clinton tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh for the final score of 5-3.
Hansen had three hits on the night, and Sauter, Beyer, and E. Riley each had two.
