Morris Area junior Brady Cardwell went 3-0 to claim the 152-pound championship at the annual Doc Busian Invite Saturday, Feb. 10 in Morris.

Cardwell defeated Brandon Kallstrom of KMS in the first round by fall in 1:55. In the semifinals, Cardwell took a 7-6 decision over St. Francis' TJ Houglund to reach the championship. Cardwell pinned Breckenridge's Mason Meyer in 2:53 to claim the 152-pound title. Cardwell took his 60th win in his career Saturday.

Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta took fifth in the nine-team invite as three other wrestlers made it to the finals and took runner up, including Ethan Lebrija at 113, Gideon Joos at 138, and Gage Wevley at 220.

Lebrija's road to the finals included a 42-second pin over Ortonville's Thomas Eustice in the opening round. He then took a 11-4 decision over West Central Area / Ashby / Brandon-Evansville's Jordan Lohse in the semifinals. In the finals, KMS' Will Magaard took a 20-7 major decision over Lebrija.

Joos' road was a bit more lax as only five wrestlers competed at 138 pounds. After an opening round bye, Joos pinned KMS' Luke Hoefer in 1:09 (see photo 6 above) to advance to the finals where he fell by decision 10-4 to St. Francis' Zach Bonte.

In the five-wrestler competition at 220 pounds, Wevley took a 3-2 decision over WCA/A/B-E's Mason Nibbe in the semifinals. Wevley has never beaten Nibbe before in his varsity career. Wevley took second after St. Francis' Kyle Lindenfelser took a major decision win by a score of 12-2 in the championship round.
