Track: UM-Morris heads south to compete
The Minnesota Morris track and field teams beat the Minnesota blizzard and trekked south to compete at the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by NCAA Division II's William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri on Saturday, April 14.
Shamund Gordon and Justin Pearson had good performances for the Cougar men. Gordon came through with a fourth place showing in the triple jump (12.47m) and eighth place distance in the long jump (6.01m). Pearson delivered a third place time in the 200 meters (22.35) and sixth place time in the 100 meters (11.07).
Other top Cougar event finishers for the men include: High jump - Matthew Kingland, Robert Reller - 1.60m - 12th place; Discus - Brandon Karstens - 33.28m - 20th; Hammer - Trent Merkins - 37.89m - 11th; Javelin - Jeffrey McEachern - 30.28m - 18th; Shot put - Merkins - 11.69m - 15th; 1500 meters - Edmund Cease - 4:31.47 - 20th; 110 hurdles - Cole Kvistero - 16.64 - 8th; 400 meters - Aboubaker Doumbouya - 51.60 - 8th; 5000 meters - Benjamin Barnack - 17:40.18 - 23rd.
For the women, Emily Ciesynski and Sierra Paske had the highest Cougar places. Ciesynski finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.66 and Paske had a fifth place showing in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.02m.
Other top Cougar event finishers include: High jump - Sierra Walker - 1.32m - 8th place; Long jump - Molly McGrath - 4.66m - 12th; Triple jump - McGrath - 9.85m - 8th; Discus - Paske - 29.23m - 17th; Javelin - Jessica Bliese - 28.15m - 11th; Shot put - Bliese - 11.57m - 8th; 1500 meters - Paige Stearns - 5:27.75 - 16th; 100 hurdles - Ciesynski - 16.31 - 8th; 100 meters - Jasmine Pryor - 13.04 - 10th; 200 meters - Pryor - 27.03 - 9th; 5000 meters - Montana Lawrence - 21:16.22 - 11th.
Minnesota Morris is next scheduled to compete Saturday, April 21 at the Gustavus Invite in St. Peter.
