Three Tigers compete in state track & field championships

Marcus Cannon, MaKenzie Smith, and Katie Holzheimer represented  Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at the Minnesota State Track & Field Championships June 7-8 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

On Saturday Cannon placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.17. Sophomore Jon Tollefson of St. Croix Lutheran took first place in 14.72.

In Friday's preliminaries, Cannon was fourth in his heat with a  time of 16.15

Cannon finished the 300 hurdles in 41.86 for eighth place in Saturday's finals. Tollefson won this event as well with a time of 39.90.

Cannon's preliminary time on Friday was 41.18 which was fourth in his heat.

On Saturday Smith placed 12th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:22.73. The first-place time of 4:48.41, run by junior Clare Flanagan of Blake School, set a new Class A record. The previous record of 4:48.79 was set in 1986.

Smith ran the 3200-meter run on Friday and placed eighth with a time of 11:33.13. Flanagan also won this event in 10:27.85.

Holzheimer ran the 100-meter dash in Friday's preliminaries. She placed fifth in her heat, just missing the 12.79 cut-off time with a 12.80.
