Henrichs hits grand slam in Tigers' 11-1 victory over New London-Spicer

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta only needed five innings to defeat New London-Spicer for the third time this season Thursday. The Tigers won 11-1 in the Section 3AA loser’s bracket, eliminating the Wildcats, while staying alive in the play-off run.

The Tigers, now 16-3, play Pipestone at 2 p.m. Saturday in Marshall.

The Tigers went up 2-0 in the second inning before putting the game away with nine runs in the third. Tyler Henrichs hit a grand slam to help the Tigers’ cause.

“The kids really responded in this game,” said coach Mark Torgerson.  “Our hitting, defense and pitching were all outstanding.

“Tyler Henrichs did a couple of things that you don't see very often at any level of the game,” added Torgerson.  “He got two hits in an inning which is a little rare, but his second hit of the third inning was a grand slam homerun.”

Henrichs was 2-for-3.

“Lincoln Berget also had a great day hitting, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.”

Berget drove in three runs.

“Jacob Torgerson pitched four innings and again had no walks with four strikeouts,” added coach Torgerson.  “Bryce Jergenson had a 1-2-3 fifth and we were able to save some pitching innings for the next game.”

Bryce Jurgenson was 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Ryan Vraa had two of the Wildcats’ four hits.
