Tigers pick up home win over Melrose

Brianna Abril covers first base for the Tigers Monday in Morris.

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta improved to 7-6 overall   with a 9-6 home win over Melrose Monday.

Already ahead 3-0,  the Tigers added what proved to be much needed offense in the fifth when back-to-back singles from McKenzie Van Batavia and Abbie Olson preceded back-to-back doubles from Brooke Johnson and Nicole Strobel.

The mid-game outburst gave the Tigers a short-lived 7-0 lead as Melrose scored twice in the sixth and four more times in the seventh.

Steph Hennen added two singles for the Tigers.

Van Batavia fanned seven and surrendered four hits and just one earned run in six-plus innings of work to earn the win.
