Tigers open season by winning their tournament

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta softball team opened the season by winning the Tigers’ own tournament.

The Tigers toppled both West Central Area and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 11-1 to reach the championship game where they then defeated St. Cloud Apollo 6-1.

McKenzie VanBatavia struck out 21 in 17 innings of work and gave up just one earned run Saturday to help the Tigers win three games.

Pacing the Tiger offense was Becca Holland’s five hits, while Brooke Johnson added four hits and VanBatavia, Chelsey Ehleringer, and Sadie Fischer each had another three.
