Tiger gymnasts host Fergus Falls Otters

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta gymnastics team hosted the Fergus Falls Otters in dual meet action on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

"We have been getting hit hard with the various 'bugs' that have been going around over

the last few days," said coach Trent Oberg. "We were without our top All-Arounder Kourtney Giese that

night as well as Haley Erdahl and Nicole Hansen. The varsity roster was

adjusted to fill in their spots, giving some of the other gymnasts some varsity


"It is a different format and 'feel' when moving from junior varsity to varsity action," explained Oberg.

"The biggest being one judge for JV and two judges for varsity at each event.

"Several of the other gymnasts were struggling with colds, coughs, and tired bodies," added Oberg. "Over

the years I have been coaching, this seems to be the norm going into the winter

break. Hopefully, we are back to full strength when the new year begins.

January will be a very busy and exciting month for the Lady Tigers. Several of

our upcoming meets will be very close and every tenth is going to count."

Diana Nelson received first place on vault.

Kindra Cannon received first place on bars.

Kendra Jergenson received first place on balance beam and second place on floor.

Katie Cannon took fourth place on vault.

Carly Maanum took fifth place on vault and third place on bars.

Noel Schieler took fourth place on bars.

Paige Loew took fifth place on bars.

Karli Siegel took second place on balance beam and tied for third place on floor.

Emily Kruger received fourth place on balance beam.

Victoria Tiernan received fifth place on balance beam.

Anna Grove tied for third place on floor.

Cassidy Fehr received fifth place on floor.

Carly Maanum competed on floor for her first time. Seventh graders Julia Buendgen

and Victoria Tiernan began their Tigers gymnastics careers by competing for their

first time on the bars and balance beam, respectively.

The JV had one tie for personal-best score, seven new personal-best scores, and

two season-high event totals.

Hailey Kotts received first place on vault.

Kendra Buro received first place on bars.

Abby Travis received fifth place on vault.

Savannah Aanerud took third place on beam and fourth place in All-Around.

Paige Schieler took fifth place on beam and second place on floor.

"Hailey Kotts and Kendra Buro have been performing nicely on the vault and bars,

respectively, these last couple of meets," said Oberg. "Their consistency in scores and places

that they have finished are well deserved.

"Savannah Aanerud is the second Tiger gymnast to stick her balance beam routine this season. Her efforts set a new personal-best score and earned a third-place finish. She also set a new personal-best score in All-Around.

"Junior Paige Schieler performed on floor for the first time in over two seasons. She did

an amazing job and looked very comfortable out there. Her efforts finished in second

place and tied her personal-best score."

The varsity had one tie for personal-best score, two new personal-best scores, and one season-high event score.

Next meet is Tuesday, Jan. 8 at home versus Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
