MORRIS -- Jordan Staples scored twice on the ground and paced a balanced offensive attack as Morris/Chokio-Alberta remained unbeaten by edging Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 27-20 Friday in a West Central Conference clash.

The Tigers (5-0, 5-0) rushed for 147 yards with Staples gaining 55 of them on just eight carries. Tommy Holland led MCA with 69 yards while Tanner Picht picked up another 45 yards, including a 27-yard scamper midway through the third quarter that broke a 14-14 tie. Corey Storck set up the touchdown with a 33-yard punt return.

ACGC (3-2, 3-2) got within a score in the fourth quarter when Dylan Hoerchler's 84-yard kickoff return set up Maverick Whitcomb's one-yard score with 3:45 left. But MCA got a first down at midfield with just over two minutes left to run out the clock.

Jake Torgerson threw a 52-yard TD pass to Logan Manska to open the scoring for MCA. Staples' first score was from 12 yards out with just over one minute left in the first half.

Hoerchler scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter and threw a 24-yard scoring strike to Taylor Larson in the third quarter. Jordan Nelson ran for a game-high 107 yards on 26 carries for ACGC, which recorded five sacks on defense.
