Tigers blank BOLD to maintain lead in WCS baseball

Eric Riley and Ethan Bruer combined to blank BOLD on four hits and Ryan Beyer slugged a home run as West Central Conference South front-runner Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta upended the Warriors 8-0 Monday.

The Tigers improved to 11-2 in the conference and travel to second-place Lac qui Parle Valley for a 7 p.m. game today. It will be the last conference game of the season for the Eagles (12-3), who can tie for the conference title with a win. Minnewaska (11-3) and Paynesville (11-4) are mathematically in the race with four losses each.

Riley worked the first six innings and gave up three hits, while striking out five and giving up one walk. Bruer pitched the seventh and preserved the shutout.

The Tigers scored four runs in the first and three runs followed in the second after Bruer singled, stole second and scored on Tyler Hansen's single. Beyer then followed with a two-run blast.

Hansen finished 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Beyer was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Eric Riley was 1-for-3. Cole Riley was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Brady Valnes was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Ethan Bruer was 1-for-3 with 2 runs.
