Morris/C-A outlasts Benson/Hancock in 14 innings

It took 14 innings and well into the night before Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta took a 7-3 win from Benson/Hancock in West Central Conference South softball action on Monday.

Katie Holzheimer scored the go-head run with two outs from second base on an outfield error. The Tigers then added three more runs on two hits.

Mackenzie Weatherly of Morris/C-A and Sara Rajewsky of Benson/Hancock each pitched all 14 innings.

The Brave Owls had runners in scoring position in innings 8 through 12, but each time Weatherly escaped damage. She retired the last seven batters she faced in order.

Holzheimer reached on a walk, her third of the game, with two outs in the top of the 14th inning. She finished 2-for-2 and scored three runs.

Dani Schultz was 4-for-7 with two doubles and two RBIs. Sadie Fischer went 3-for-7 with two runs. Hannah Sayles was 2-for-7 and Haley Henrichs was 1-for-5 with one run.

Mackenzie Jensen was 3-for-6 for Benson/Hancock.

Weatherly allowed nine hits, walked three and fanned 12; Rajewsky gave up 12 hits, walked five and struck out four.

Both teams scored one run in the third inning and two in the fifth for a 3-3 tie that forced extra innings.
