Prep Softball: Gibson, Tigers top Chargers

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning as Piper Gibson produced one of the bigger offensive performances in the area this season at Brandon-Evansville on Thursday, May 18 in Evansville.

Gibson was 5-for-5 with a home run, three doubles and four runs batted in.

MA/C-A's Jenna Howden doubled in two runs and Jen Solvie had a hit and a RBI. Liz Dietz worked all seven innings to get the win in the circle.

Morris/C-A plays a West Central Conference doubleheader at BOLD at 4 p.m. Friday, May 19. The Tigers can clinch the conference championship with a win in one of the two games. If BOLD wins both games, the Tigers would tie Minnewaska for the conference title.

The Tigers grabbed the No. 1 seed in Section 3AA-North playoff seedings announced Wednesday, May 17. Morris/C-A will open up postseason play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 in Morris against the winner of No. 4 Montevideo and No. 5 Minneota/Canby. The winner of Tuesday’s game will play at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 in Marshall.
