Tiger girls see the green a lot over the past week

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls golf team was in action a lot over the past week. The Tigers were at Minnewaska Invitational last Friday, May 5, continued West Central Conference play at Melrose and Sauk Centre Tuesday, May 9, were at the Benson Invite on Wednesday, May 10, and finished out the week at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake for a Section 3AA Preview Invite on Thursday, May 11.

Minnewaska Invite

Marshall won the team championship and Minnewaska's Ashlyn Guggisberg placed second individually at the Minnewaska Girls Invitational on Friday, May 5 at the Minnewaska Golf Course in Glenwood.

Morris/C-A had just four participate at the invite. Leading the Tigers was Hannah Zimmel, who shot a 97.

West Central

The Tigers golfed Meadowlark Country Club in Melrose and Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre on Tuesday, May 9, and took third at both. After six complete West Central Conference meets, the Tigers sit in third overall behind Minnewaska and BOLD.

At Benson

The Tigers participated at the non-conference Benson Invitational on Wednesday, May 10. Out of eight teams that competed, the Tigers finished in the middle of the pack at fourth with a 398 score, which is respectable considering Morris/C-A was without Shiori Legate and Miranda Hesse, head coach Austen Miller said.

Peyton Hennen, Hannah Zimmel, and Megan Kirkeide all finished with a 98 round, which was good for a tie for 15th overall.

"The conditions were tough starting out, but improved as the day went on. This wasn't our best showing, but we still managed to pull together a respectable score," Miller said. "Mackenzie Stahman and Chloe Mogaard shot their personal bests for 18 holes!"

Stahman shot a personal best 104, and Mohaard finished with a personal best 111.

3AA Preview

The Morris/C-A Tigers took second at the Section 3AA Preview on Thursday, May 11 Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake. A second place finish is something the Tigers have been aiming towards all season, head coach Austen Miller said.

“This is a great confidence booster heading into section play. If we play at sections like we did [Thursday], we should have a good chance of advancing to the second day of sections as a team. This has been a season goal of ours,” Miller said.

The Tigers close out the WCC season at Montevideo and Benson next Thursday, May 18. They tee off at 12 p.m. in Montevideo and 4 p.m. in Benson. The Section 3AA tournament begins Wednesday, May 24 at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake.
