Lakers first at hosted invite, Tigers take second

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls track and field team took second at Minnewaska’s Steven Hill Invite on Tuesday, April 18 in Glenwood. The Lakers claimed the top spot in their hosted invite with 193.25 points.

The Tigers had six first place finishes all in running events: 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1600-meter run, 300-meter hurdles, and the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relays.

Anna Grove took first in the 400-meter with a time of 1:04.67.

Maddie Carrington had a pair of first place finishes with a 2:29 in the 800-meter run and a 5:41 in the 1600-meter run.

Midori Soderberg clocked a 51.69 for the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles. Correy Hickman and Kaylie Raths rounded out the top three in that event.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the team of McKenna Lubenow, Olivia Lebrija, Islande Sperr, and Kate Folkman finished in 55.87 for top honors. The 4x200-meter relay team of Lubenow, Hickman, Folkman, and Grove claimed first in 1:58.11.

Morris/C-A didn’t place above fifth in a field event, but did earn seven other second and third place finishes on the track side.

The Tigers host a junior high invite on Friday, April 21 in Morris, then the junior high team goes to Ortonville on Monday, April 24. The varsity is back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 in Benson.
