Tiger boys first at Minnewaska Invite

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys track and field team took first at the Steve Hill Invite hosted by Minnewaska Tuesday, April 18 in Glenwood. The Tigers recorded five firsts and a handful of second and third place finishes on their way to 143 points. Minnewaska took second with 123.5 points and West Central Area rounded out the top three teams with 96 points.

The Tigers took first in the 400-meter dash, pole vault, 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, and 4x800-meter relay.

Mace Yellow topped the competition in the 400-meter dash event with a time of 55.84. Dalton Dierks and Ben Travis were the top two pole vaulters at the meet, respectively. Dierks cleared an 8-06 for first while Travis cleared an 8-00.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the group of Levin Strand, Connor Koebernick, Zach Hughes, and Nate Beyer finished nearly an entire second ahead of second place finishing West Central Area. Together the Tigers clocked a 46.79.

In the 4x200-meter relay, Strand, Beyer, and Hughes partnered with Yellow to claim the top spot in the event. The Tiger relay finished in 1:39.19.

The 4x800-meter relay of Tate Nelson, Christian Thielke, Noah Stewart, and Jaden Maanum finished in 9:08, which was two seconds faster than second place. The foursome recorded an 8:54.96 at last week’s Tiger Invite, which is their best time of the season.

Seven Tigers recorded season bests on the day, including Nathan Beyer in the shot put. He threw a best distance of 40-07.25, which was good for second at the meet. His previous mark was a 39-08, which he reached in the first meet of the season, the Marv Meyer Invite, back on April 4.

The varsity Tigers are back on the track next Tuesday, April 25 at Benson. Junior high is in action Friday, April 21 in Morris and at Ortonville Monday, April 24.
