Morris/C-A takes 2-0 sweep over visiting Benson

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger softball team improved to 4-0 in West Central Conference play with a sweep of Benson Tuesday, April 18 in Morris. The Tigers defeated Benson 18-4 and 6-4.

The Tigers next host Melrose at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.

Benson jumped out to an early lead, but a late offensive onslaught gave Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta the 18-4 win. The Tigers scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth and held the Braves scoreless in the bottom half to preserve the 10-run rule in six innings.

Piper Gibson drove in five runs for the Tigers, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three doubles. Brooke Gillespie had a triple and a double for her two hits. Bailey Marty, Emma Bowman, and Karly Fehr also had two hits in the game as Morris/C-A outhit Benson 15-7.

Ashley Solvie recorded the win in the circle, pitching four innings no-hit, no-run ball. She also struck out three.

The Tigers flipped the script in game two, jumping out to a lead early and holding on for a 6-4 game two win. Morris/C-A held a 3-0 lead after the first inning and withstood a comeback attempt by the Braves in the sixth and seventh to win.

Bowman, Marty, Gillespie, and Fehr all had two hits.

Liz Dietz took the win in the circle, going five innings and giving up three runs on six hits.

The Tigers host Melrose for a conference game at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
