Tigers sweep Braves on the road

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta baseball team swept Benson in a West Central Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18 in Benson. The Tigers won 8-4 and 4-1.

The Tigers are now 3-1 and host the Morris/C-A round robin tournament on Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22.

Morris/C-A 8, Benson 4

With the score tied at 1-all through three innings, Benson earned its first lead of the game with a score in the bottom of the fourth. Morris/C-A responded in a big way, scoring five in the top of the fifth to regain control and cruise to an 8-4 game one win Tuesday, April 18 in Benson.

A walk and hit-by-pitch call led off the inning for the Tigers. Ryan Dietz then drove in Taylor Carrington from second with a single to right field. Brenden Goulet pinch ran for Dietz and stole second. When Benson threw down to second, Jared Rohloff scored from third. Parker Dierks drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Ryan Bowman crushed a RBI double to right field, scoring Goulet and advancing Dierks to third only to steal home on a wild pitch. Tim Travis, who pinch ran for Bowman, stole third on the same play to make the score 6-2.

Benson added two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the rally fell short.

Dufault went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.

Another big fifth inning for Morris/C-A gave way to a 4-1 win, and the sweep, over Benson Tuesday.

The inning started with two walks, one by Dietz and one by Denner Dougherty. Chandler Vogel then singled to load the bases. An error by Benson first baseman scored Dietz from third. A sacrifice fly by Tyler Reimers scored Dougherty, then an error by the Benson pitcher allowed Ryan Bowman to reach and Vogel to score to make it 3-1. The fourth run, Bowman, scored on a Toby Sayles double.

Sayles and Dietz each hit doubles in game two. Vogel pitched a complete game with only one run on six hits. He struck out six.

The 2016 champion MACCRAY will return to defend its title along with Silver Bay and Pelican Rapids. Morris/C-A will take on Pelican Rapids in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, then take on Silver Bay at 10 a.m. and MACCRAY at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
