Tigers win second by 10-run rule

Mackenzie Weatherly limited Montevideo to two hits and struck out 11 as Morris Area upended the Thunder Hawks 11-1 Monday in a West Central Conference South softball game.

The Tigers took an early two-run lead in the first. Then Beth Holland broke open a 2-1 game with a fourth-inning double that scored two runs for the Tigers. The Tigers added four more runs before the inning ended.

Caroline Fritz later invoked the 10-run rule when her single up the middle with two outs brought in the third run of the sixth inning.

Haley Henrichs had RBI singles in the first and fourth and a fielder's choice in the sixth that drove in another run. Hannah Sayles knocked in three more runs for the Tigers.

Both of the Thunder Hawks' hits were singles -- Shelby Monahan in the third and Chelsea Larson in the fourth -- and Becca Pauling scored their only run in the third on a Tiger error.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-1 on the season. Montevideo falls to 1-4.
