Early surge lifts Morris

All the scoring came in the first inning as Morris Area defeated Yellow Medicine East 4-2 Friday in a West Central Conference South baseball game.

Morris Area had its first four hitters in the lineup -- Tyler Hanson, Tanner Rohloff, Ryan Beyer and Eric Riley -- score as YME committed three errors in the top half of the first.

The bottom half of the opening frame saw the Sting score twice on Tyler Sand's home run. Derek Dyrdahl, the third batter in the lineup, doubled off the wall before Sand followed by belting a long fly that hit off the top of the wall and bounced over for a two-run homer.

After that Ethan Bruer and Dylan Lindstrom dueled to the end. Bruer fanned seven and allowed only one other hit -- a double to Jordan Hagert in the fourth -- to get the win.

Lindstrom was the hard-luck loser, even after striking out six and not allowing an earned run.

Morris had only one runner reach second base after the first while YME had two, one in the fourth and another in the seventh.

Beyer, Riley and Mitch Carbert had the three hits for Morris.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 3-0 on the season. The Sting are still looking for their first victory.
