Tigers advance to Saturday's second round

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta was the only one of three West Central Conference South boys' basketball teams playing in Section 6AA-West to advance Thursday night.

The No. 1 seeded Tigers defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 72-42, while Minnewaska fell to West Central Area 67-55, and Benson succumbed to Staples-Motley 80-58.

The Tigers and Knights will meet in the second round at the University of Minnesota, Morris Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Tigers won the last contest between the two teams 67-47 in Barrett on Jan. 9.

The Tigers did not take the Thunder lightly. Last year, the same match up went into overtime.

"This game was even more important than Friday's," said Torgerson. "Everyone stayed focused and played hard to the end."

Every member of the team saw action on the court.

"That showed the caliber of players off the bench," added Torgerson.

The Tigers made a season-high 10 three-pointers out of 18 attempts. Hennen sank five treys and finished with 19 points. Erickson canned four 3-pointers and had 14 points. Arnold added 10 points.
