Tiger girls fall to conference leaders

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City moved one game closer to finishing its West Central Conference South schedule unbeaten as the Falcons defeated Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 47-38 Friday.

ACGC won its 11th straight and improved to 15-0 in the conference. The Tigers fell to 10-5 in the conference and 14-8 overall.

"This was another disappointing loss," said coach Ken Gagner. "Unfortunately, we are not playing very well right now and with tournament time fast approaching we have to try and right this ship quickly.

"During the second half we seemed to play a little bit harder and we cut the lead to five with the ball in our hands, but we could do no better."

The Tigers finish the regular season Tuesday night, hosting the Minnewaska Lakers.

The Tigers look to be the No. 4 seed in section 6AA and will host their opening round play-off game on Thursday, March 4.

Mary Rentz had 13 points and Erin Schieler followed with 10 for the Tigers. Schieler also grabbed seven rebounds. Jenna Nelson was the assist leader with four.

Miranda Hopp paced the attack for the Falcons with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
