The Morris Area/ Hancock/Chokio-Alberta wrestling team participated in the Big Bear Tournament in Cass Lake on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18 and 19.

Individual Results

103 lbs.: After a bye in the first round, Evan Nelson lost to Shane Novak of New York Mills by fall in 1:37. Novak went on to place second. Nelson then defeated Daniel Stacy of Walker by fall in 4:50, but was then eliminated by Josh Lawson of Wadena by fall in 1:28.

112 lbs.: In the first round, Myles Smith defeated Tanner George of Blackduck by a 17-6 major decision. In the second round, Smith was defeated by Steven Handerson of Fergus in an 8-6 decision. Smith won his next match over Laine Jenson of Park Rapids by fall in 3:56. He was eliminated by Joe Elvecrog of Aitkin in a 13-7 decision.

119 lbs.: Tony Domnick started by defeating Tyler Peterson of Nashwauk by fall in 3:03. In the second round, he was defeated by Nick Clobes of Hutchinson by fall in 1:41. Domnick won the next match by defeating Jarek Ludwick of Roseau by fall in 3:18. Domnick was eliminated by Mike Bellefeuille of Detroit Lakes by fall in 1:35.

125 lbs.: Jordan Thooft opened with a win over Mitch Bonderson of Nashwauk by a 9-6 decision. He lost the second round to Arthur Zavala of Dilworth by fall in 1:27. Thooft was eliminated by Dylan Nistler of Walker by fall in :54.

130 lbs: Jerid Berning lost the first round to Tanner Henne of Dilworth by fall in 3:43. He was then eliminated by Mihai Hawthorne of Blackduck by fall in :47.

135 lbs.: Eric Goette took sixth place. He started with a 12-0 major decision over Carver Brownlee of Hibbing. Then he defeated Blake Wiemann of Walker with an 8-3 decision. In the third round, Goette pinned Jared Wegsheid of Wadena in 5:42. In the fourth round, he ran into Justin Tweeton of Detroit Lakes, who defeated Goette in a 14-6 major decision. Goette was then defeated by Cody Mentges of Deer River in a 13-5 major decision. In the fifth-place match, Goette was defeated by Wegsheid in a 14-8 decision.

145 lbs.: Wade Feuchtenberger started with a win by fall in 4:29 over Nick Schultz of Park Rapids. In the second round, he was defeated by Alex Hensch of Fergus Falls by fall in 1:36. Hensch went on to take third place. Feuchtenberger was eliminated by Tanner Sovde of Badger in a 15-5 major decision.

160 lbs.: Tanner Berning took fifth place. He started with a bye, then defeated Joe Anderson of Walker by fall in 1:47. In the third round, Berning was defeated by Cody Bue of Little Fall s in a 5-0 decision. Bue went on to take second place. Berning then worked his way back through the bracket by defeating Danny Pike of Park Rapids by fall in 3:31 and Alex Lannigan of Virginia by a 4-3 decision. Berning lost a 5-2 decision to David Booth of Crosby-Ironton which put him in the fifth-place match. Berning won by default over Ben Gaughan of Moorhead.

171 lbs.: Ryan Beyer drew Nathanial Swoyer of Willmar for his first-round match. Swoyer defeated Beyer by a 15-0 technical fall and went on to win the championship at 171 pounds. Beyer then received a bye before being eliminated by Josh Edlund of Crookston by a 17-4 major decision.

189 lbs.: Jeff Knobloch finished in seventh place. He started out defeating Craig Brouder of Blackduck by fall in 3:30. In the second round he was defeated by Andrew Juve of Fosston by technical fall in 4:24. Juve went on to take second place. Knobloch worked his way back through the bracket by defeating Matt Harris of Barnesville by a 15-5 major decision, Nolan Johnson of Wadena by technical fall in 5:50, and Tyler Johnson of Red Lake County by an 11-4 decision. In the seventh-place match, Knobloch was defeated by Keeton Laymon of West Marshall by fall in 3:51.

215 lbs.: Joel Harrison lost the first round to Cole Christianson of Badger by fall in :27. After a bye, he was defeated by Jacob Trowbridge of Moorhead by fall in 2:20.

285 lbs: Zach Gibson placed sixth. He won his first three matches defeating Colton Schmidtbaur of Nashwauk by fall in 3:38, Justin Holm of Detroit Lakes by fall in 6:16, and Zach McComb of Hibbing in a 6-2 decision. In the fourth round, Gibson was defeated by Landyn Saewert of New York Mills by technical fall in 6:00. Saewert lost his next match, the championship, to place second. Gibson then lost to Kane Wallner of Virginia by fall in 5:49. In the fifth-place match, Gibson met up with McComb again, who won a 6-4 overtime decision.
