Tigers split doubleheader in Montevideo

The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta Tigers split a rare doubleheader in Montevideo on Friday, May 16. In the doubleheader, the Tigers won the first game against Yellow Medicine East and dropped the second game to Montevideo 8-2. The Tigers also dropped a game to Melrose on Thursday, May 15.

The Tigers are now 8-7 on the season and are in Paynesville taking on the Bulldogs today.

Melrose took the win over the visiting Tigers on Thursday, May 15. Corey Storck led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the Dutchmen took the win 8-4 Thursday afternoon.

Brady Jergenson went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, and Nate Anderson, Bryce Jergenson, Gage Bachman, and Nick Solvie each had a hit in the contest.

Bryce Jergenson led off the game with a double, and it didn’t get any easier from there for YME.

The Tigers pounded out 12 hits and drew eight walks, scoring multiple runs in five different innings.

Backman had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in six runs.

Jergenson, Noah Grove and Seth Staples each scored three times, and Grove had two doubles.

Staples started for the Tigers and went the distance, striking out nine.

Montevideo 8, Morris/C-A 2

Montevideo scored all of its runs in four innings as the Thunder Hawks pieced together four two-run frames to earn their 10th win of the season over the Tigers 8-2.

Five T-hawks drove in the eight runs, and that was plenty of support for pitcher Jordan Thompson as the senior shook off giving up 12 hits by not issuing a walk and striking out five.

The Tigers scored twice, once in the fourth on Riley Biesterfield’s single and again in the seven on Backman’s double. Grove supplied three singles in the Tiger loss.
