Heavy hitting secures Tiger win over Brave Owls

The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta softball team started the week 1-1 as the Tigers dropped an away game against West Central Conference foe Minnewaska in six innings on Tuesday, May 13. Then on Wednesday, May 14, the Tigers were in Benson to take on Benson/Hancock, taking the 11-1 victory in five innings thanks to some powerful Tiger at bats.

The Tigers now play Paynesville in Morris today (Thursday, May 15) at 5 p.m. Then on Friday, May 16, the Tigers host Atwater - Cosmos - Grove City to finish off their regular season with Section 3AA playoffs starting on Tuesday, May 20.

Minnewaska 12, Morris/C-A 2

Bayley Pooler doubled in Morgan Majerus and Kacia Kollman before scoring standing up on a misplayed bases-loaded grounder in the sixth inning to invoke the 10-run rule and a 12-2 victory for Minnewaska.

Rachel Bakko had RBI singles in each of her first three at bats and Shanae Suchy added a two-run double for the Lakers, who outhit the visiting Tigers 14-5. Mady Phillips was the beneficiary of the offense, spinning a complete game that featured eight strikeouts and no walks.

Lauren Reimers slugged a solo home run over the fence in the first for the Tigers. Brooke Johnson added two singles and Chelsea Ehleringer an RBI to complete the Tiger hitting.

Morris/C-A 11, Benson/Hancock 1

Lauren Reimers hit two home runs and drove in five runs and Morris/Chokio-Alberta downed Benson/Hancock 11-1 on Wednesday.

Reimers connected in back-to-back at bats and she also singled in two runs.

Brooke Gillespie doubled twice and Brianna Abril, Brooke Johnson and Becca Holland all had two hits for the Tigers.

Kayla Pring worked all five innings, limiting the Brave Owls to three hits. Benson’s lone run came on Addie Forbord’s solo home run to right in the second inning.

The Tigers play next against Paynesville today in Morris, then play host to A-C-GC on Friday. Both games start at 5 p.m.
