No. 2 Eagles defeat Tigers

The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta Tigers fell in the first round of the Section 6AA playoffs to south subsection No. 2 seeded Eden Valley-Watkins on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The Tigers, though seeded No. 7 in the section, stayed with the Eagles in the first round of the section playoffs. The game was tight throughout with the Tigers trailing by just three possessions at the half 32-26.

Out of the break, the Eagles came out aggressive, putting points on the board while the Tigers failed to get a point in the opening seven minutes. Down by 18, the Tigers rallied back to within five, but the comeback was too little too late for the Tigers as the Eagles took the win 68-60.

The Tigers shot just under 35 percent from the field, and just 54 percent from the free throw line in the contest.

The Eagles put a stopper in 6’2” sophomore center Eric Staebler had 11 points and 13 boards for a double double in the losing effort for the Tigers.

Senior Bryce Jergenson added 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Junior Noah Grove shot the lights out with a career high 31 points on 10-21 shooting and three made three pointers.
