Tiger girls win three straight

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers girls’ basketball won three straight games in this weeks action. Friday, Jan. 31 was a 73-43 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, then Saturday, Feb. 1 a win in West Central Area. On Monday, Feb. 3, the Tigers hosted Benson and outplayed the Braves, winning the contest 76-17. The now 12-6 Tigers are chasing second seed in the 6AA South subsection with a 5-3 section record.

Morris/C-A 73, A-C-GC 43

Lauren Reimers scored 19 points and picked up seven steals in the 73-43 victory over A-C-GC on Friday, Jan. 31.

Becca and Beth Holland combined for 24 points. Becca grabbed seven rebounds, and Beth had six assists and four steals.

Lacee Maanum had a team-high 11 boards and scored two points.

Katie Moore led A-C-GC with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Kendra Miller and Jacey Nelson each scored nine in the losing effort.

The B-squad got off 72 shots while grabbing 13 offensive rebounds in the 66-43 victory over A-C-GC. Piper Gibson led the offense with 19 points and three assists. Correy Hickman added 10 with three rebounds, and Courtney Storck added six with four steals defensively.

Morris 61, West Central 45

The Tigers, with little rest from Friday nights game, were back on the court in Barrett against West Central Area on Saturday, Feb. 1. The fatigued West Central Area Knights were on their third straight game, and ran out of gas in the second half, falling short to the Tigers 61-45.

Beth Holland led the Tigers with 19 points.

The B-squad dominated West Central Area 64-26 with Gibson leading the team with game high 16 points. Both teams were tired, but coach Jim Greenwaldt said the bench made a big difference in the win. Ten Tigers scored in the true team victory. The Tiger B-squad had 21 total steals Saturday afternoon with Courtney Storck leading with five and Gibson collecting four.

The Tigers won their third straight game on Monday, Feb. 3 against the Benson Braves. The Tigers held Benson to just 17 points on 5-27 shooting from the field in a 76-17 win for the Tigers.

Lauren Reimers supplied 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in the Tigers’ lopsided victory.

The B-squad improved to 17-1 on the week with a 52-23 win over the Braves. Five Tigers had eight plus points: Gibson (11), Madison Wevley (10), Ashley Solvie (10), Kayla Pring (8), and Correy Hickman (8). “Our defense was really effective during the game,” Greenwaldt said. “The first half we trapped and put a lot of pressure on the ball, and the second half we worked on our zone defense.”

The Tigers next game is in Minnewaska on Thursday, Feb. 6. Minnewaska is 6-10 overall with a 72-47 loss to the Tigers earlier this season. After Thursday, the Tigers will host a slew of home contests: Montevideo on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Melrose on Friday, Feb. 14, Breckenridge on Saturday, Feb. 15, A-C-GC on Feb. 18, and New London-Spicer on Feb. 20.
