Tigers lose two to top teams

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers hot streak fell apart as the boys lost 68-44 at home in a conference boy’s basketball matchup against Montevideo on Friday, Jan. 10. Then on Monday, Jan. 13, the Tigers took a trip to the ever-dominating now 11-3 Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons. The Tigers proved to be some tough competition, but the final seven minute run by the Falcons aided them to victory over the Tigers 85-77.

Montevideo 68, Morris/C-A 44

Despite having a one point lead at the half, the Tigers weren’t able to pull off a fourth straight win over the Montevideo Thunderhawks on Friday, Jan. 10.

A couple of three-pointers to open the second half propelled Montevideo to a 68-44 West Central Conference win over the Tigers.

The visiting Thunderhawks outscored the Tigers 40-15 in the second half.

Jordan Thompson drained five three pointers and finished with 21 points, as did Troy Diggins. Dazhown Coleman pocketed eight steals as Montevideo shot 60 percent from the field while the Tigers were just 15-of-39 (38 percent).

Noah Grove’s four three pointers, 19 points and four assists, and Eric Staebler’s double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds paced the Tigers.

A-C-GC 85, Morris/C-A 77

Taylor Larson scored 35 points and A-C-GC held off the Tigers 85-77 on Monday, Jan. 13.

The Falcons went on a 10-2 run with seven minutes remaining to open up a 12-point lead to put the game away.

The Falcons shot 13-for-14 from the field in the second half and eight-for-eight in the last 1:40.

The Tigers’ duo of Staebler (30 points, 15 rebounds) and Grove (23 points) kept the Tigers in the game into the second half.

Jacob Zosel added nine points and Riley Biesterfeld had six while grabbing four boards. Zosel also ended the game with three steals and three assists for the Tigers.

The Tigers host Melrose on Friday, Jan. 17 before going on the road for their next three games. On Monday, Jan. 20, the Tigers take on Eden Valley-Watkins. Then on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Tigers continue their away season against Paynesville. Finally, on Friday Jan. 24, the Tigers travel to Lac Qui Parle Valley to take on the Eagles.
