Storm boys break losing streak

The Morris Benson Area boys broke their five-game losing streak with a convincing 7-2 win over Worthington/Fulda/Spirit Lake on Saturday at the Benson Civic Center.

With the win the Storm are now 4-7 on the season and 3-1 in the Southwest Conference. They are off until Saturday when they travel to Windom for a conference game against the Eagles.

The Storm scored four times in the opening period against the Trojans and all three Storm goaltenders saw action in the game on Saturday.

Kelly Engquist got the first goal with an assist going to Ethan Ratliff-Crain and then Tanner Picht scored assisted by Engquist on a power play for a 2-0 Storm lead. Ratliff-Crain scored next assisted by Engquist and Luke Schwarz and Schwarz scored the final goal of the period with an assist from Mac Beyer.

Alex Sinclair stopped all three Trojan shots that he saw in the period and Trojan goalie, Kyle Hain made seven saves.

Jacob Huston scored to start the second period with an assist from Ratliff-Crain and Engquist scored again, assisted by Schwarz and Huston to give the Storm a 6-0 lead. Mitch Jensen of the Trojans rounded out the second-period scoring with a goal for a 6-1 Storm lead after two.

Andrew Fath started the second period between the pipes for the Storm and he was credited with five saves, while Hain had 10.

The third period saw Matt Huot in goal for the Storm. Tyler Hansen scored an unassisted short-handed goal for the Storm early in the period and Jensen scored again for the Trojans for the final score of 7-2. Huot stopped one Trojan shot for a Storm game total of nine, while Hain made nine more saves for a game total of 26.

The Storm was called for eight penalties and the Trojans for five in a game that saw more then half of the action played with one team having a power-play advantage. The Storm was 1-for-5 on the power-play, while the Trojans were 0-for-8.
